Digestive Teas
Vata Tea:
Fresh sliced ginger root, 1 part cumin seeds, 1 part coriander seeds, 2 parts fennel seeds, ¼ fresh ground cardamom
Pitta Tea:
1 part cumin seeds, 1 part coriander seeds, 2 parts fennel seeds, fresh peppermint leaves
Kapha Tea:
1 part Tulsi, 1 part anise or fennel seeds, ½ part ground ginger, ¼ part cardamom, pinch of clove
Boil a pot of water with ginger root when indicated, turn off heat and add approximately 2 tbsp of seed and powder mixture and steep for 10 minutes. Strain, add sweetener per your constitution and drink 2-3 cups per day between meals.
Digestive Lassi
After the cleanse it is important to add probiotics to the diet to strengthen the digestion. Ayurveda recommends a drink of fresh yogurt drink called lassi during or after the meal. It is best start with fresh homemade yogurt. Lassi drinks help to reduce gas and bloating.
Ingredients:
1 cup room temperature water
¼ cup fresh homemade yogurt
1 pinch ground ginger
1 pinch ground cumin
1 pinch ground coriander
1 pinch salt
Preparation:
Blend for 1 min and drink after lunch.
If you do not do well with dairy, you can increase your intestinal flora by eating fermented vegetable or miso soup. You only need a small amount, approx. a tablespoon with meals.
Almond Milk
Ingredients:
10-15 almonds (un-roasted and unsalted); soak overnight and blanch in hot water to peel
1 tsp ghee or EFA’s
1 cup milk (bring almost to a boil) or soy/grain milk
2 pinches cardamom
pinch cinnamon
1 piece ginger (if agni is low)
1 pinch nutmeg
1 Tbls. unsweetened coconut (optional)
1 pinch saffron (cook in milk)
2 mendjool dates
Preparation:
Blend together and drink up! Increases immunity (Ojas)
Kapha take in moderation and use ½ cup water and ½ cup dairy free beverage.
