Ayurvedic Digestive Spice Blends
Vata-Balancing Masala
3 tsp ground fennel or anise
1 tsp each turmeric, ground cumin, ground ginger, black pepper, cardamom, salt and turbinado sugar
Pitta-Balancing Masala
6 tsp ground fennel
2 tsp each ground coriander and ground cumin
tsp each turmeric, salt and turbinado sugar
Kapha-Balancing Masala
1 tsp each ground ginger, black pepper and turmeric
1 tsp each ground coriander, ground cumin, sweet paprika, salt and turbinado sugar
Alternately, choose 3 or 4 spices/herbs from the lists below, according to your dosha, and follow the same directions as for the spice mixes above:
Vata Spices
cardamom, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, salt, cloves, mustard seed, black pepper
Pitta Spices
coriander, fennel, cumin, dill, mint, turmeric
Kapha Spices
turmeric, ginger, mustard seeds, cayenne pepper, anise, black pepper, basil, parsley
Take a little of the spice blend before meals to stimulate digestion, with food to balance your Doshas or after a meal to further support the digestive process.
Ashwagandha or Shatavari Kalpa
Ingredients:
7.5 oz ghee
1-2 T honey
45 tsp Shatavari or Ashwagandha
1 T Cardamon
1 tsp ginger powder
Preparation:
Melt ghee by placing container in a pot of hot water. Pour into a bowl and mix in ingrediets. Take 1 tsp 1-2 times/day with warm water for a daily rasayana.
Ashwagandha is Vata pacifying, boosts immunity, decreases stress & anxiety and builds strength. Shatavari is Pitta pacifying, used to increase female libido, inflammatory conditions esp related to urito-genital issues and for hyper-acidity.
Ghee Dates
Ingredients:
1 pinch saffron
1/8 tsp cardamom
1 tsp ginger
10 Mendjool Dates
1 jar fresh made ghee
Preparation:
Make fresh ghee and add the spices and dates. Cover and put in a cabinet for 2 weeks. Eat 1 date daily in the early morning. This is a rejuvenate to Vata, nourishing the reproductive system and the nervous system. It helps to increase sexual libido.
